Clinical Application
This curved tongue depressor is used to retract the tongue and improve visualization and access to the oropharynx during diagnostic and minor surgical procedures. Typical uses include facilitating inspection and instrumentation for ENT examinations, oral and dental procedures, awake or assisted intubation setup, placement of oral devices, and providing a controlled working field for biopsies, suturing, irrigation, and suctioning.
Design & Configuration
The curved blade geometry follows the natural contour of the oropharyngeal space, enabling improved line-of-sight with less need for excessive downward force. A 13 mm blade width provides a broad, stable contact area to distribute pressure across the dorsal tongue and minimize localized trauma while maintaining secure retraction. The 12 cm length gives adequate reach for access to the posterior oral cavity and oropharynx without excessive protrusion.
