Clinical Application
This self-retaining McIvor-style mouth gag frame provides stable exposure of the oral cavity and oropharynx during otolaryngology and oral surgery procedures. It is used to maintain mouth opening and to support interchangeable blades and a tongue depressor for procedures such as tonsillectomy, uvulopalatopharyngoplasty, transoral biopsy and base-of-tongue access. By securing soft tissues away from the surgical field, the frame facilitates visualization, instrumentation and airway management.
Design & Configuration
The open-frame geometry centers the oral aperture and provides unobstructed access to the oropharynx. A self-retaining ratchet-style mechanism allows the surgeon or assistant to lock and maintain a chosen degree of mouth opening without continuous manual retraction. The frame is configured to accept removable blades and a tongue depressor element, enabling rapid intraoperative changes in blade size or profile to suit patient anatomy and the specific exposure required.
