Clinical Application
This tongue plate is intended for use with a McIvor-style mouth gag to retract and support the tongue during oropharyngeal and transoral procedures. The broad plate provides a stable platform to displace the tongue anteriorly and laterally as required, improving surgical exposure for tonsillectomy, base-of-tongue surgery, pharyngeal procedures and laryngoscopic access while helping to protect the dorsal tongue surface from focal pressure and trauma.
Design & Configuration
The 27x95 mm rectangular plate offers a wide contact area to distribute retraction forces across the dorsal tongue, reducing localized pressure points. The plate is configured to mount to a McIvor gag frame (Fig.1 compatibility), allowing controlled anterior displacement and stabilization of the tongue. The geometry supports unobstructed line-of-sight into the oropharynx and facilitates instrument access for the operative team.
