Clinical Application
Designed for use with the Davis–Boyle (Boyle–Davis) mouth gag system, this tongue plate provides anterior displacement and consistent retraction of the tongue to expose the oropharynx. It is commonly employed during tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy and other oropharyngeal procedures where sustained tongue control and protection of the endotracheal tube are required. The plate's surface helps to distribute pressure and minimize localized mucosal trauma while maintaining a clear surgical field.
Design & Configuration
The flat, rectangular 25x75 mm plate offers a broad contact area to retract and support the tongue without concentrating force on a small point. Its geometry balances coverage and visibility—large enough to stabilize the tongue and protect the airway tube, while allowing the surgeon unobstructed access to the tonsillar and pharyngeal regions. The component is configured as a replacement/attachable plate for the Davis–Boyle Fig.3 gag, enabling straightforward interchangeability when different plate sizes or a replacement is needed.
