Clinical Application
Designed as the anterior tongue-contacting element for the Davis‑Boyle Fig.2 mouth gag, this tongue plate provides controlled anterior displacement and stabilization of the tongue to optimize exposure of the oropharynx. It is used to facilitate procedures such as tonsillectomy/adenotonsillectomy, oropharyngeal and select maxillofacial or ENT interventions where reliable anterior retraction is required. The plate also helps protect the tongue from direct instrument contact while maintaining a clear surgical field.
Design & Configuration
The broad, low-profile plate geometry distributes contact pressure across the anterior tongue to reduce focal pressure points and improve tissue stability. The 25 x 90 mm footprint balances adequate anterior coverage with clearance for instrumentation and visualization. Engineered to interface with the Davis‑Boyle Fig.2 frame, the plate provides a stable, removable contact surface that can be positioned to optimize exposure without impeding access to the oropharynx.
