Clinical Application
Provides a stable intraoral platform to support and protect the palatal vault in edentulous (toothless) patients. Commonly used during prosthodontic workflows (impression taking, denture try-ins, occlusal adjustments) and in oral/maxillofacial procedures where temporary palatal stabilization or retraction is required. By distributing contact pressure across a broader area of the palate, it reduces focal tissue compression and facilitates clearer access for suturing, mucoperiosteal flap management, and measurement or adaptation tasks.
Design & Configuration
The Fig.4 pattern denotes a contoured palatal support geometry optimized for the edentulous maxilla. The broad contact surface disperses load across the palatal vault rather than concentrating it on a small point, reducing mucosal trauma during prolonged procedures. A hand-held supporting handle provides tactile control for fine positional adjustments and retraction while maintaining access to the oral cavity. Smooth, rounded edges minimize soft-tissue irritation and allow the clinician to manipulate tissues and instruments without obstructing the operative field.
