Clinical Application
This tongue plate is an accessory intended to mount to the Fig.1 carrier of a Kilner–Doughty mouth gag to stabilize and depress the tongue during procedures of the oropharynx. When used with the gag frame and suspension system it improves exposure of the tonsillar fossae, soft palate and posterior pharynx for tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy and related ENT or oral surgery procedures. The broad contact surface limits focal pressure on the tongue while maintaining a consistent working field for the operating surgeon.
Design & Configuration
The plate features a contoured, low-profile geometry to conform to the anterior tongue and oropharyngeal curvature, providing atraumatic support and minimizing tissue compression. Its broad, smooth contact area distributes pressure across the tongue to reduce risk of localized ischemia and soft-tissue trauma. The configuration is engineered to seat securely on the Fig.1 carrier, maintaining stable positioning throughout the case without obstructing instrument access to the tonsillar and pharyngeal regions.
