Clinical Application
This plate is designed to control and retract the tongue to improve visualization and access to the oral cavity, oropharynx and hypopharyngeal inlet. It is used intraoperatively during ENT, maxillofacial, dental and airway procedures where reliable tongue displacement and stabilization are required — for example during tumor excision, reconstructive procedures, exposure for instrumentation, or surgical airway access.
Design & Configuration
The Fig.4 Malek configuration provides a broad, contoured contact surface to distribute pressure across the dorsal tongue and reduce focal compression. The 25-31 x 78 mm footprint offers sufficient length to reach the posterior oral cavity while accommodating variation in tongue bulk. A plate-style geometry permits controlled retraction without obstructing the working channel for instrumentation or suction.
