Clinical Application
Designed to provide atraumatic retraction and stabilization of the tongue during procedures that require consistent oral exposure. The plate supports dorsal displacement and lateral control of the tongue to improve access and visualization for oral and oropharyngeal procedures, minor maxillofacial operations, dental surgery, and ENT work where a compact retractor surface is required. It may also be used as an accessory component where a dedicated tongue plate is specified by laryngoscope or retractor systems.
Design & Configuration
The flat-to-contoured plate geometry concentrates contact over a controlled area to reduce soft-tissue pinch and distribute pressure evenly across the dorsum of the tongue. The compact footprint accommodates restricted oral cavities while providing a stable platform for retraction. The Malek pattern (Fig.1) is intended for situations where a small-to-moderate contact surface is preferred to maximize working space in the oropharynx.
