Clinical Application
This instrument provides reliable retraction of the oral cavity to expose the teeth, tongue base, tonsillar pillars and oropharynx. It is used in ear, nose & throat and maxillofacial procedures (including tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy, intraoral repairs, dental surgery and select airway procedures) where stable, hands-free mouth opening and consistent exposure are required. The 16 cm length is intended to provide adequate reach for adult oral cavity retraction and intraoral access.
Design & Configuration
The parallel-jaw configuration delivers evenly distributed pressure across the dental arches and mucosal surfaces, reducing point-loading and the risk of localized tissue compression. Parallel jaws are especially useful when symmetric exposure is needed and when protecting dentition is a priority. The Fergusson pattern is a long-established mouth-gag geometry that facilitates sustained retraction and unobstructed access to posterior oral and pharyngeal structures.
