Clinical Application
This self-retaining mouth retractor is designed to provide stable, hands-free exposure of the oral cavity and oropharynx. It is used to maintain mouth opening and protect soft tissues during procedures such as oropharyngeal surgery, tonsillectomy, dental and maxillofacial procedures, and ENT approaches where sustained, controlled retraction of the tongue, cheeks or lips is required. The instrument permits unobstructed access for visualization, instrumentation and suction while reducing the need for an assistant to hold retractors.
Design & Configuration
The Ackland-pattern jaws present broad, contoured contact surfaces that distribute pressure across a larger area of soft tissue, helping to reduce focal pressure points and trauma to the tongue and oral mucosa. The Fergusson-style geometry incorporates a self-retaining mechanism to maintain a selected degree of mouth opening, allowing consistent exposure throughout a procedure. The 16 cm overall length provides reach into the oral cavity while keeping the handle and locking mechanism accessible to the surgeon.
