Clinical Application
Used primarily in otolaryngology and facial plastic procedures to retract soft tissue within the nasal cavity and paranasal regions. The combination of a ball tip and a sharp tip provides options for atraumatic soft-tissue retraction (ball) and firmer engagement or elevation of mucosal flaps and fibrous tissue (sharp), supporting tasks such as septal exposure, lateral nasal wall retraction, turbinate manipulation and limited sinus access during endonasal or open approaches. The 15 cm length offers sufficient reach for most adult intranasal and anterior sinus exposures while remaining compact for use in confined operative fields.
Design & Configuration
The double-ended geometry reduces instrument exchanges by providing two functional tips in one instrument. A rounded (ball) end distributes pressure and minimizes point loading on mucosa, lowering the risk of localized ischemia when sustained retraction is required. The opposite sharp end permits secure engagement of tougher tissue planes or controlled elevation of mucoperichondrial/mucoperiosteal flaps. A straight shaft and 15 cm working length balance visibility and reach for both bedside procedures and OR settings.
