Clinical Application
This trocar-and-cannula set is intended to provide a controlled percutaneous access route for placement of flexible drainage tubes during thoracic and abdominal procedures. It is commonly used to facilitate chest tube insertion for pleural effusion, pneumothorax or hemothorax management and can also be employed for peritoneal drainage or bedside decompression where a direct, protected conduit is required to pass soft drainage tubing into a body cavity.
Design & Configuration
The instrument pairs a sharp obturator (trocar) with a matched hollow cannula. The trocar provides atraumatic yet effective penetration of soft tissues and the chest or abdominal wall under controlled force, while the cannula remains as a stable sheath to protect the tract and guide the drainage tube into the target space. This two-piece geometry reduces soft-tissue tear during tube passage and allows the operator to exchange the obturator for other devices or remove it once the cannula is positioned.
Instrument Specifications
- Instrument type: Trocar (obturator) and matching hollow cannula (sheath)
- Pattern / model: Buelau
- Tip: Sharp trocar tip for percutaneous entry
- Intended use: Percutaneous placement of drainage tubes (thoracic and abdominal/pleural and peritoneal drainage)
- Construction: Reusable stainless-steel components
Material & Construction
Constructed from surgical-grade stainless steel for durability and repeated use. The obturator is removable from the cannula to permit controlled entry and an unobstructed lumen for passage of drainage tubing once the tract is established. Designed for routine decontamination and sterilization between uses.
Quality & Compliance
Manufactured by FDA-registered OEM facilities and produced under strict quality control standards.
