Clinical Application
This instrument is designed for controlled excision of aural polyps, small pedunculated masses, and select soft tissue within the external auditory canal. It is intended for use under direct vision with an otologic speculum and microscope or magnification, enabling precise capture and transection of tissue at the polyp stalk while minimizing manipulation of the surrounding canal and tympanic membrane.
Design & Configuration
The Krause balance-style snare features a slender shaft and a fine wire loop that is sized for access to the external auditory canal. The balance-style handle provides tactile control of loop advancement and retraction so the operator can tighten the loop around the lesion's base with fine incremental control. The loop geometry allows encirclement of pedunculated tissue and delivers mechanical transection without the need for thermal energy, which can help reduce collateral thermal injury in the confined ear canal.
