Clinical Application
Designed to provide atraumatic access to the external auditory canal, this antireflex speculum is used during otologic examinations and minor aural procedures to improve visualization and guide instrumentation. The 4.0 mm aperture offers an appropriate working lumen for many adult ear canals, facilitating cerumen removal, microsuction, suction-assisted biopsy, and intra-canal inspection under an operating microscope or headlight.
Design & Configuration
The antireflex geometry reduces specular reflection from bright exam or microscope lights, improving contrast and line-of-sight to the tympanic membrane and canal walls. A conical taper with a 4.0 mm tip diameter balances patient comfort and procedural access: large enough to allow small suction tips and instruments while minimizing canal wall contact. Smooth, atraumatic edges help reduce patient discomfort and the risk of iatrogenic injury during insertion and manipulation.
