Clinical Application
This speculum is designed to facilitate direct visualization and access to the external auditory canal and tympanic membrane during otoscopic exams and minor otologic procedures. The tapered funnel geometry helps center the viewing field and maintain a clear working corridor for diagnostic inspection, irrigation, lighted instruments, or microsuction when used with standard ENT technique.
Design & Configuration
The Pritchard Fig.3 configuration features a tapered, conical/funnel profile that minimizes obstruction of the visual axis while gently dilating the canal. The 7.5 mm diameter provides a balance between access and patient comfort, making it appropriate for smaller to medium-sized ear canals. The smooth internal bore and flared rim aid in atraumatic placement and help reduce contact with canal skin during positioning.
