Clinical Application
Designed to provide controlled, atraumatic separation of ribs for access to the thoracic cavity. Commonly used during posterolateral and anterolateral thoracotomy, pulmonary resections, mediastinal procedures and other open thoracic operations where stable exposure of intercostal spaces is required. The blade dimensions and self-retaining mechanism support single-operator maintenance of a consistent field while assistants perform suction, suction–irrigation, and operative maneuvers.
Design & Configuration
The Haight-style parallel-arm design places two broad blades in opposing alignment to distribute pressure across the rib surface and minimize focal trauma. The self-retaining mechanism locks the arms at the desired aperture to maintain exposure without continuous manual force. The size designation 30x30x90 mm denotes paired blade tip widths and the working aperture, providing a balance between adequate field visualization and conservative rib separation to reduce soft-tissue stress.
Instrument Specifications
- Instrument type: Rib spreader / thoracic retractor (Haight pattern)
- Configuration: Double-bladed, parallel-arm, self-retaining
- Size: 30x30x90 mm
- Tip pattern: Broad, smooth blades for atraumatic retraction
- Surgical use: Thoracotomy and open thoracic exposure
- Reusable surgical instrument
Material & Construction
Constructed from surgical-grade stainless steel for corrosion resistance and repeated reprocessing. Blade surfaces are smoothed to reduce point-loading on ribs and soft tissues. The self-retaining mechanism and hinge points are engineered for reliable engagement and controlled release under typical operative loads. Reusable design intended for standard sterilization and reprocessing protocols.
Quality & Compliance
Manufactured by FDA-registered OEM facilities and produced under strict quality control standards.
Brand Comparison
Comparable in form and function to equivalent instruments offered by major US medical suppliers.
