Clinical Application
Designed for controlled separation of the ribs and maintenance of the thoracic aperture during open thoracic procedures. Provides stable exposure for lung resections, decortication, chest wall tumor resection, drainage of empyema, and other procedures that require sustained intercostal retraction. The instrument allows surgeons to incrementally increase spread to optimize visualization while minimizing sudden forces on the ribs and intercostal tissues.
Design & Configuration
The Morse-Favaloro pattern pairs slim, contoured blades with an adjustable spreader mechanism to deliver a balance of footprint and reach suitable for standard adult thoracotomies. The geometry of the blades and the linear adjustment control permit precise, incremental opening and consistent retention of the surgical field. This configuration facilitates atraumatic retraction when used with protective soft tissue guards and allows one-handed control of position during concomitant operative maneuvers.
