Clinical Application
These paired Finochietto-style blades provide the primary soft-contact interface for open thoracic exposure. When mounted on a Finochietto rib spreader frame, the blades engage the superior and inferior aspects of the adjacent ribs to create and maintain a reproducible intercostal gap for thoracotomy, lobectomy, pleurectomy, chest wall procedures, and other procedures requiring sustained lateral rib separation. The 80 x 60 mm footprint offers a broad contact area to distribute retraction forces and reduce focal pressure on the ribs and intercostal tissues.
Design & Configuration
The paired-blade configuration is designed for symmetrical retraction. Broad, flat blade faces increase contact area and help minimize soft-tissue and periosteal compression. Blades of this profile are intended to interface with the spreader frame’s rack-and-pinion/ratchet mechanism, converting linear advancement into controlled lateral separation. The geometry supports stable, self-retaining retraction and allows incremental adjustment of gap width for fine control during exposure and instrumentation.
