Clinical Application
Curved Macintosh blades are designed to provide indirect elevation of the epiglottis by seating the blade tip in the vallecula, improving line-of-sight to the glottic opening for tracheal intubation. This three-blade set includes sizes #1, #2 (78 mm), and #3 to cover the spectrum from neonatal/infant (#1) through pediatric (#2) to adult (#3) airway management needs in hospital operating rooms, ambulatory surgery centers, emergency departments, and anesthesia practices.
Design & Configuration
The Macintosh curvature allows the flange and blade profile to displace the tongue and transmit a lifting vector to the base of the epiglottis rather than directly lifting the epiglottis itself. Blade length and size selection influence depth of insertion and visual exposure; the included 78 mm #2 blade provides a mid-range pediatric length for smaller children, while the #1 and #3 accommodate smaller infants and adults respectively. The conventional three-blade set enables clinicians to select the appropriate blade quickly during routine and difficult airway encounters.
