Clinical Application
Designed to secure a stable airway following a surgical tracheostomy or percutaneous tracheotomy, this instrument provides a direct conduit for ventilation, suctioning, bronchoscopy access and secretion management. The removable inner cannula permits rapid clearing of secretions at the bedside without disturbing the stoma or outer cannula, reducing the need for repeated tube changes. Cuffed options can be used when a sealed airway is required for positive-pressure ventilation or aspiration protection; uncuffed options are used when lower airway resistance or phonation is prioritized.
Design & Configuration
The typical design features an anatomically curved outer cannula with a low-profile flange that rests against the neck for secure fixation. A removable inner cannula nests inside the outer cannula to allow quick removal, inspection and cleaning without disrupting the outer tube. An obturator is used during initial insertion to provide a smooth leading edge and minimize mucosal trauma. Cuffed configurations incorporate an inflation lumen and pilot balloon to permit controlled cuff inflation and sealing when required. These geometric and functional elements combine to optimize patient comfort, reduce decannulation risk, and simplify routine care in inpatient and outpatient settings.
Instrument Specifications
- Outer cannula with integrated neck flange for secure external fixation
- Removable inner cannula to facilitate bedside cleaning and suctioning
- Obturator for atraumatic insertion
- Available in cuffed and uncuffed configurations to match clinical requirements
- Intended for use after surgical tracheostomy or percutaneous tracheotomy for airway maintenance and ventilatory access
Material & Construction
Constructed from surgical-grade stainless steel for long-term reusability and resistance to corrosion. Reusable design allows for repeated sterilization cycles and maintains dimensional stability during autoclave processing. Cuff components (when present) are typically formed from medical-grade elastomeric materials designed for biocompatibility and controlled inflation.
Quality & Compliance
Manufactured by FDA-registered OEM facilities and produced under strict quality control standards.
Brand Comparison
Comparable in form and function to equivalent instruments offered by major US medical suppliers.
