Clinical Application

Used to establish and maintain a direct tracheal airway following surgical tracheostomy or in the management of prolonged respiratory failure. The device provides a stable conduit for mechanical ventilation, facilitates tracheal suctioning and secretion management, and—when fenestrated—can assist in phonation and decannulation assessment. Selection of cuffed versus uncuffed and fenestrated versus non‑fenestrated designs should be guided by the patient’s airway anatomy, ventilatory requirements, and risk of aspiration.

Design & Configuration

The device comprises a curved or straight cannula that seats in the trachea and a flanged neck plate for external fixation. An obturator is commonly used to protect mucosa and ease insertion during placement. Removable inner cannula options allow rapid clearance of secretions and simplify bedside cleaning without removing the outer cannula. Cuffed designs provide an adjustable seal to support positive‑pressure ventilation and reduce aspiration risk; fenestrated designs include an opening in the cannula wall to permit airflow through the larynx for speech trials. Cannula length and curvature are selected to match patient anatomy and minimize localized pressure on the tracheal wall.

Instrument Specifications

  • Configurations: cuffed, uncuffed, fenestrated, non‑fenestrated
  • Components: outer cannula with flange (neck plate), optional removable inner cannula, and insertion obturator
  • Intended use: surgical tracheostomy and postoperative airway management
  • Fixation: external flange for secure tube stabilization
  • Cleaning/maintenance: designed for removal of inner cannula to facilitate bedside clearing
  • Reusable design compatible with repeated sterilization cycles

Material & Construction

Constructed from medical‑grade stainless steel to withstand repeated cleaning and sterilization while maintaining structural integrity. Removable components are engineered for reliable seating and easy disassembly for reprocessing. Where specified, tubes include a polished internal bore to reduce secretion adherence and facilitate suctioning.

Quality & Compliance

Manufactured by FDA-registered OEM facilities and produced under strict quality control standards.

Brand Comparison

Comparable in form and function to equivalent instruments offered by major US medical suppliers.
