Design & Configuration

The tubular shaft is sized to be seated within the tracheal lumen while the external flange (neck plate) stabilizes the device against the skin and provides fixation points for securing ties. An obturator is used during insertion to create a smooth leading edge and reduce mucosal trauma. Removable inner cannula designs permit bedside cleaning or replacement without removing the outer cannula, reducing the need for repeated exchanges. Fenestrated options provide a pathway for expiratory airflow through the larynx to enable speech when the cuff is deflated; cuffed designs create a seal for positive-pressure ventilation and to limit aspiration. These geometric and functional options allow clinicians to tailor the device to airway anatomy and respiratory support requirements.
