Clinical Application
Used to gently dilate a tracheostomy stoma and surrounding soft tissues to facilitate atraumatic insertion or exchange of tracheostomy tubes, obturators, or cannulae. Commonly employed during open tracheostomy procedures and in bedside tracheostomy care to establish and maintain an adequate stoma diameter while minimizing mucosal trauma.
Design & Configuration
The scissor-style, opposing-blade design provides direct, controlled spreading force that permits gradual dilation under tactile feedback. The 14 cm length offers adequate reach for adult airway procedures while maintaining good manual control. Rounded, atraumatic tips distribute contact pressure to reduce cutting or pinching of soft tissue during dilation.
