Spurling Lami-Rong 45

Clinical Application

Designed for posterior spinal procedures, this 45° lamina rongeur is used to remove laminar bone, osteophytes and residual fibrocartilaginous tissue during laminectomy, foraminotomy and related decompression procedures. The angled bite allows the surgeon to work along the posterior elements and under overhanging bone without excessive retraction, facilitating controlled bone removal in open and constrained exposures.

Design & Configuration

The 45° orientation of the working tip provides an oblique trajectory that improves access to the lamina, medial facet and lateral recess when a straight instrument would be limited by anatomy or exposure. A compact, bite-oriented jaw concentrates cutting force at the tip to deliver predictable, controlled bites of cortical and cancellous bone. The geometry reduces the need to reposition the instrument repeatedly, helping maintain visualization and minimizing soft-tissue manipulation.
