Clinical Application
This 45° Spurling lami-rongeur is intended for precise bone nibbling and removal during posterior spinal procedures. It is used to resect portions of the lamina, remove osteophytes or bony spurs, and to create windows for decompression in laminectomy and laminotomy procedures. The angled working end enables targeted removal in confined corridors found in cervical, thoracic and lumbar exposures while minimizing collateral soft-tissue retraction.
Design & Configuration
The 45° angulation of the shaft and working end provides an oblique approach that improves line-of-sight and access to dorsal bony elements without excessive retraction. A compact rongeur head concentrates the cutting force at the bite to deliver controlled, incremental bone removal. This geometry is beneficial when working around neural elements or when creating a controlled laminar window through limited exposure.
