Clinical Application
Designed to facilitate atraumatic tendon harvesting and mobilization, this Bunnell-pattern stripper is used to free tendons subcutaneously for grafting and reconstruction. It is commonly employed in hand and wrist procedures as well as peripheral tendon surgeries where limited incisions and controlled blunt dissection are desired. The instrument enables passage along the tendon sheath to release adhesions and deliver a length of tendon for grafting (for example palmaris longus or plantaris grafts) with minimal additional soft-tissue trauma.
Design & Configuration
The slender, low-profile shaft combined with a tapered, atraumatic tip is engineered to track smoothly along the tendon while minimizing soft-tissue entrapment. A 7 mm shaft profile provides a balance between strength and a narrow working profile to move through subcutaneous planes, while the 15 cm overall length gives adequate reach for most forearm and lower-leg tendon harvesting approaches. The Bunnell pattern emphasizes controlled blunt advancement rather than sharp cutting, reducing the risk of iatrogenic tendon or neurovascular injury during retrieval.
