Clinical Application
The Cobb-type spinal elevator is designed for controlled subperiosteal elevation and blunt dissection during posterior spinal exposures. Its narrow 8 mm working blade is suited for detaching periosteum, mobilizing paraspinal musculature from lamina and transverse processes, and creating a working plane for pedicle screw entry or decompression procedures. The 28 cm length provides the reach required for multilevel lumbar and thoracic exposures while maintaining tactile feedback for delicate tissue handling.
Design & Configuration
The spatulated Cobb geometry concentrates levering force along a broad, slightly beveled edge to separate soft tissue from bone without slicing. The extended shaft length facilitates access into deep operative corridors and around anatomical contours while allowing the assistant or surgeon to maintain a safe working distance from retractors and instrumentation. The compact 8 mm blade provides precision in narrow interlaminar spaces and around pedicles where larger elevators would be cumbersome.
