Clinical Application
A Sedillot periosteal elevator is used to separate and reflect the periosteum and soft tissues away from bone surfaces with controlled blunt dissection. Its primary applications include mucoperiosteal flap elevation in oral and maxillofacial procedures, subperiosteal dissection in rhinoplasty and septoplasty, and exposure of cortical bone for small bone work or implant site preparation. The 21 cm length provides additional reach for deeper cavities or when working through limited access incisions.
Design & Configuration
The flat, spatula-style blade with a rounded edge is designed to distribute separating forces across tissue while minimizing focal trauma to the periosteum. A thin, tapered tip allows precise initial entry beneath the soft tissue, while the broader shaft provides leverage for controlled reflection. The 21 cm overall length balances reach and tactile feedback, enabling access to deeper surgical sites without excessive handle-to-tip flex.
Instrument Specifications
- Type: Periosteal elevator (Sedillot pattern)
- Configuration: single-ended, flat spatula blade with rounded edge
- Length: 21 cm
- Primary use: mucoperiosteal reflection and subperiosteal dissection
- Construction: stainless steel, reusable
Material & Construction
Constructed from surgical-grade stainless steel for durability and repeated sterilization. The single-piece blade and shank geometry are optimized for stiffness and tactile control during blunt dissection. Reusable construction supports standard sterilization workflows used in hospital and ASC settings.
