Clinical Application

Volkmann bone curettes are indicated for controlled removal of bone and soft fibrous tissue from cortical and cancellous surfaces. This Fig.5 configuration is used for targeted curettage in confined spaces where a spoon-shaped bowl provides both cutting edge contact and tactile feedback. Typical uses include removal of loose bone fragments, debridement of small cystic cavities, harvesting cancellous bone, and precise bone sculpting during orthopedic, hand, foot, ENT and select neurosurgical procedures.

Design & Configuration

The Volkmann scoop geometry concentrates the cutting edge around a shallow cup to allow efficient scraping while retaining small tissue fragments for controlled removal. The rigid 17 cm shaft provides reach into deeper operative fields without excessive flex, improving access in narrow anatomical corridors. The Fig.5 pattern denotes a mid-range bowl size suitable for medium-diameter curettage sites where balance between tissue capture and maneuverability is required.
