Clinical Application

This curved pediatric laryngoscope blade is sized and shaped to facilitate direct laryngoscopy and orotracheal intubation in neonates and small infants. The Macintosh geometry is intended to seat in the vallecula to achieve indirect elevation of the epiglottis, improving visualization of the glottic opening while minimizing force on the epiglottis and surrounding tissues. Fiber-optic illumination along the blade improves visualization in small oral cavities where line-of-sight is limited.

Design & Configuration

The Macintosh curve permits elevation of the epiglottis by placement in the vallecula rather than direct lifting, reducing the need for deep displacement of the tongue and minimizing potential trauma. The 66 mm length (Size #1) offers an appropriate reach for neonatal and small infant airways while maintaining a slim profile to reduce soft-tissue compression. Integrated fiber-optic illumination provides bright, focused light distributed along the blade to reduce shadows and improve glottic visualization during intubation.

Instrument Specifications

  • Pattern: Macintosh curved blade
  • Size / Length: 66 mm (Size #1)
  • Illumination: Fiber-optic (F/O)
  • Tip design: Vallecula-tip curvature for indirect epiglottis elevation
  • Primary use: Direct laryngoscopy and orotracheal intubation in neonates and small infants
  • Construction: Stainless steel, reusable

Material & Construction

Manufactured from durable stainless steel with a smooth, polished finish to facilitate cleaning and reduce tissue adherence. The blade incorporates fiber-optic illumination (F/O) routed through the blade to provide consistent, shadow-reducing light at the tip. Designed for repeated use and reprocessing according to facility protocols.

Quality & Compliance

Manufactured by FDA-registered OEM facilities and produced under strict quality control standards.

Brand Comparison

Comparable in form and function to equivalent instruments offered by major US medical suppliers.
