Clinical Application
This trocar-point Kirschner wire is intended for percutaneous skeletal fixation and provisional stabilization of fractures, osteotomies and reductions. At 1.6 mm diameter it is commonly used in small-bone procedures and extremity cases where a balance of bending resistance and minimal cortical disruption is required. Indications include temporary pin fixation during open reduction internal fixation (ORIF), external fixation, skeletal traction and pinning in hand, wrist, foot and selected pediatric applications.
Design & Configuration
The trocar point geometry provides a sharp, cutting triangular tip that facilitates direct cortical entry with controlled advancement and reduced tendency to burr bone compared with blunt-tipped pins. The straight, smooth shaft permits easy insertion and removal and minimizes soft-tissue drag. The 160 mm working length supplies adequate reach for most extremity procedures while the 1.6 mm diameter offers a low-profile fixation option for small bones and delicate constructs.
Instrument Specifications
- Instrument type: Kirschner (K-wire) trocar-point pin
- Pattern / model: Trocar point
- Configuration: Straight, smooth-shank pin for percutaneous use
- Size: 1.6 mm x 160 mm
- Tip: Trocar (sharp cutting) point
- Typical use: Percutaneous skeletal fixation, provisional stabilization, traction and pinning in small-bone procedures
