Clinical Application
This trocar point K‑wire is intended for percutaneous skeletal fixation and provisional stabilization of small bones and fragments. Common applications include hand and wrist fracture pinning, toe and forefoot fixation, temporary fragment control during reduction, and use as fixation or traction pins in trauma and reconstructive procedures. The 1.4 mm diameter is typically selected for small‑bone applications where minimal bone disruption is required.
Design & Configuration
The trocar point geometry provides a sharp, three‑faceted tip designed to penetrate cortical bone with controlled entry, allowing for rapid percutaneous placement without extensive pre‑drilling in many cases. The straight, smooth shaft minimizes soft‑tissue drag during insertion and removal. Because trocar tips can be more prone to skiving on hard cortical surfaces, surgeons often advance these pins under fluoroscopic guidance and may use a power driver or T‑handle for controlled insertion.
Instrument Specifications
- Diameter: 1.4 mm
- Length: 140 mm
- Tip: Trocar point (sharp, cortically penetrating)
- Configuration: Straight, smooth shaft for percutaneous use
- Typical uses: Percutaneous fixation, provisional stabilization, external fixation pinning
Material & Construction
Manufactured from surgical stainless steel with a polished finish to reduce tissue drag and facilitate insertion and removal. The material selection provides good radiographic visibility under fluoroscopy for intraoperative guidance.
