Clinical Application
This straight Miller-style pediatric laryngoscope blade is intended for direct elevation of the epiglottis to expose the glottic opening during orotracheal intubation and airway management in infants and small children. It is used in routine and emergency pediatric anesthetic inductions, neonatal resuscitation, and anywhere a direct-line view of the vocal cords is required for endotracheal tube placement.
Design & Configuration
The Miller-Baby geometry features a narrow, straight profile that facilitates insertion under the epiglottis and direct lifting of the epiglottic tip. This configuration reduces the need to manipulate the tongue or apply excessive force on the vallecula, helping to improve line-of-sight for visualization of the glottis in small airways. The length and blade curvature are selected to reach the pediatric glottic inlet while maintaining a low-profile silhouette to minimize oropharyngeal trauma and interference with adjuncts such as bougies or stylets.
