Clinical Application
Designed for direct laryngoscopy to facilitate orotracheal intubation in adult and large adult patients. The curved blade geometry is used to engage the vallecula and provide indirect elevation of the epiglottis, improving exposure of the glottic opening for endotracheal tube placement, bougie insertion, or diagnostic visualization during airway management in operating rooms, emergency departments, and critical care settings.
Design & Configuration
The Macintosh curvature transmits lift to the hyoepiglottic ligament by seating the blade tip in the vallecula rather than directly lifting the epiglottis, which is the standard technique for routine adult intubation. A size #4, 133 mm length provides the reach recommended for larger adult anatomy while maintaining familiar handling characteristics. The conventional metal blade includes an integrated illumination bulb located near the distal aspect to provide direct line illumination of the laryngeal inlet. The blade is designed to mate with standard Macintosh laryngoscope handles and latch mechanisms for secure attachment and power connection.
Instrument Specifications
- Pattern: Macintosh curved blade
- Size: #4
- Length: 133 mm
- Illumination: integrated bulb
