Clinical Application

The Macintosh curvature transmits lift to the hyoepiglottic ligament by seating the blade tip in the vallecula rather than directly lifting the epiglottis, which is the standard technique for routine adult intubation. The conventional metal blade includes an integrated illumination bulb located near the distal aspect to provide direct line illumination of the laryngeal inlet.
