Clinical Application
The lateral blade is a purpose-built component of the O'Sullivan-O'Connor retractor system used to provide sustained lateral retraction of the abdominal or pelvic wall during intra-abdominal, pelvic and gynecologic procedures. Placed at the sides of the wound and anchored to the retractor frame, the blade creates a stable lateral opening that improves visualization and access to deep operative fields, facilitating procedures such as hysterectomy, pelvic reconstruction, colorectal exposure, and urology cases.
Design & Configuration
The blade’s broad, contoured profile distributes retraction forces across a larger surface area to reduce focal pressure on soft tissues while maintaining exposure. Its lateral orientation and mounting geometry allow it to engage securely with the O'Sullivan-O'Connor frame so the blade resists displacement during instrumentation. The flat, smooth retraction surface aids in atraumatic tissue contact and permits adjustment of blade depth and angle to accommodate variable wound sizes and body habitus.
Instrument Specifications
- Pattern: O'Sullivan-O'Connor lateral blade
- Configuration: Contoured lateral retractor blade designed to attach to the O'Sullivan-O'Connor frame
- Functional surface: Broad, flat retraction face for soft-tissue support
- Primary use: Deep pelvic and abdominal wall retraction for gynecologic, urologic and general abdominal surgery
- Construction: Surgical-grade stainless steel; reusable
Material & Construction
Manufactured from surgical-grade stainless steel and finished for smooth tissue contact, the design emphasizes durability and repeated sterilization. The rigid construction maintains blade shape under retraction loads and the smooth finish facilitates cleaning and inspection between uses. The blade is intended for repeated reprocessing according to facility sterilization protocols.
Quality & Compliance
Manufactured by FDA-registered OEM facilities and produced under strict quality control standards.
Brand Comparison
Comparable in form and function to equivalent instruments offered by major US medical suppliers.
