Clinical Application
This medial blade is used with a Caspar-style cervical retractor system to provide medial retraction of the trachea, esophagus and deep soft tissues during anterior cervical spine procedures such as anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF). When paired with corresponding lateral blades, it helps create and maintain a stable working corridor to the anterior vertebral bodies and disc spaces while protecting soft-tissue structures from focal pressure.
Design & Configuration
The medial orientation and low-profile footprint are intended to align with the midline anatomy of the anterior neck and to seat securely in the retractor frame. The 40x24 mm blade footprint provides a balance between contact area for distributed pressure and a compact profile to maximize surgical access. A blade that mounts rigidly to the Caspar assembly reduces micromotion, helping maintain exposure once the retractor is set.
Instrument Specifications
- Instrument type: Medial blade for Caspar retractor systems
- Blade size: 40x24 mm
- Functional orientation: Medial retraction surface
- Typical use: Anterior cervical exposure (ACDF and related procedures)
- Construction: Surgical-grade stainless steel; reusable
Material & Construction
Manufactured from surgical-grade stainless steel with a clinical finish suitable for repeated sterilization and reprocessing. The blade profile is precision-formed to engage the retractor frame securely while offering a smooth retraction surface to minimize tissue trauma.
