Clinical Application
This lateral blade is used with a Caspar cervical retractor system to provide controlled lateral retraction of soft tissues and musculature during anterior cervical procedures such as anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF). The broad, flat profile distributes retraction forces across the prevertebral soft tissues, helping maintain a stable surgical corridor and improving visualization of the disc space and vertebral bodies while minimizing focal pressure on exposed tissues.
Design & Configuration
The lateral orientation and flat blade geometry are intended to engage and hold soft tissues laterally while the Caspar frame secures the blade in position. A 65 mm blade width provides extended coverage for typical adult cervical exposures; the blade interfaces with the retractor mounting mechanism to allow secure fixation and incremental adjustment of retraction depth and angle. Smooth transitions and a low‑profile edge reduce localized tissue stress during prolonged retraction.
