Clinical Application
This lateral blade is intended for use with a Caspar cervical retractor system to provide controlled lateral retraction and exposure of the anterior cervical spine. It is used during procedures such as anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) and anterior cervical corpectomy to maintain a stable working corridor, protect surrounding soft tissues (longus colli, neurovascular structures) and facilitate visualization for disc removal, graft placement and anterior instrumentation.
Design & Configuration
The lateral orientation positions retracting force parallel to the long axis of the cervical spine, allowing consistent lateral displacement of soft tissues while preserving the central surgical corridor. A 35 mm blade size offers a moderate span suitable for most single-level and adjacent two-level anterior exposures; its contoured profile improves contact with the vertebral surface and distributes retraction forces to reduce focal tissue compression. The blade is engineered to interface securely with the Caspar retractor frame to maintain stable retraction throughout the case.
