Clinical Application
This Mayo Collin retractor is intended to provide focused, controllable retraction of soft tissue and wound edges during open procedures. Its 15 cm length is suited for superficial to moderately deep operative fields where a handheld instrument permits dynamic adjustment of exposure—common uses include retraction of subcutaneous tissue, fascia, mucoperiosteal flaps, and soft-tissue margins in general, plastic, ENT, and oral/maxillofacial surgery.
Design & Configuration
The instrument's handheld configuration gives the assistant or surgeon direct tactile control of retraction force and direction, allowing incremental adjustment during dissection and suturing. The Fig. 2 Mayo Collin pattern provides a broad working surface to distribute pressure across tissue, reducing focal compression while maximizing exposure. The 15 cm overall length balances reach into deeper pockets with ergonomic handling for prolonged use.
