Clinical Application
This Kocher-style hemostatic forceps is designed to provide a firm, locking grip on dense soft tissue and for temporary control of bleeding from medium-sized vessels in open surgical procedures. The toothed tip and positive ratchet lock make it appropriate for securing fascia, tendon edges, tissue bundles during dissection, and for traction or retraction when a confident, non-slip hold is required. It is not intended for atraumatic handling of friable or microvascular structures where minimal tissue injury is critical.
Design & Configuration
The straight shaft provides direct alignment between the operator's hand and the jaws, improving line-of-sight placement in superficial and confined fields. The Kocher-style toothed tip gives a penetrating purchase that resists slippage, while the box-lock pivot and multi-step ratchet permit sustained clamping pressure without continuous manual force. This combination of geometry and locking mechanism supports reliable tissue control during hemostasis, layered closure, and when securing tissue for suturing.
