Clinical Application
Designed for pediatric and neonatal thoracic procedures, this rib approximator is used to gently bring and hold ribs in alignment during chest wall closure, thoracotomy repair, and other procedures requiring temporary stabilization of osseous chest structures. Its short length and jaw geometry facilitate controlled approximation in small operative fields, aiding precise suture placement and reducing manipulation of surrounding tissue.
Design & Configuration
The compact 14 cm profile gives short working length appropriate for infant and pediatric chests, improving tactile feedback and control in confined spaces. A locking handle (ratchet) allows the surgeon to set and maintain a consistent approximation force, freeing the assistant and stabilizing the ribs while sutures or fixation devices are applied. The jaw contour is shaped to conform to the radius of pediatric ribs to distribute pressure evenly and minimize point loading.
