Clinical Application
Designed for thoracic surgery, this long Allison-pattern lung retractor provides atraumatic retraction and exposure of pulmonary tissue, pleura and adjacent mediastinal structures during open procedures. Common uses include lobectomy, pneumonectomy, decortication and other thoracotomies where deep reach and stable retraction of lung parenchyma is required. The length facilitates retraction through a thoracotomy incision while keeping the surgeon’s hand and handle clear of the wound.
Design & Configuration
The elongated 30 cm shaft gives additional reach for deep chest cavities and helps maintain a safe working distance from the surgical field. The Allison pattern is configured as a single-ended, handheld retractor intended to distribute pressure across the working end, minimizing focal compression on delicate lung tissue. The handle geometry supports one-handed manipulation and controlled repositioning during exposure.
