Clinical Application
Provides percutaneous peritoneal access for diagnostic sampling and therapeutic drainage of ascitic fluid. The trocar/ cannula set is used during paracentesis to establish a secure tract through the abdominal wall, permitting controlled aspiration of fluid, collection of specimens for laboratory analysis, or temporary drainage in inpatient and ambulatory procedures. Can be used with ultrasound guidance when clinically indicated to improve placement accuracy and reduce complications.
Design & Configuration
The two-piece design pairs a sharp obturator (trocar) with a hollow cannula sleeve. The obturator facilitates controlled penetration of the abdominal wall and peritoneum, while the cannula maintains a patent lumen for fluid evacuation once the obturator is withdrawn. The 21Fg size balances lumen diameter for effective drainage with a smaller insertion profile to reduce patient discomfort and soft-tissue trauma. A standardized hub allows connection to syringes or drain tubing for uncomplicated aspiration or continuous drainage.

Material & Construction
Constructed from surgical-grade stainless steel designed for repeated clinical use and routine reprocessing. The obturator provides a sharp, controllable penetration profile while the cannula offers a smooth internal lumen to facilitate efficient fluid flow and easy suctioning or tubing attachment. Reusable construction supports cost-effective inventory management when instruments are reprocessed according to facility protocols.
