Clinical Application
This conventional Macintosh blade is sized and shaped for direct laryngoscopy in neonatal and small-infant patients. The short, curved 65 mm blade facilitates insertion into a small oral cavity and placement in the vallecula to expose the glottic opening for endotracheal intubation. It is intended for use in operating rooms, emergency departments, NICU/transport settings and procedural suites where reliable visualization of the larynx is required.
Design & Configuration
The Macintosh curved profile is designed for indirect elevation of the epiglottis by engaging the vallecula rather than directly lifting the epiglottis. The relatively short 65 mm length reduces the risk of posterior pharyngeal or dental trauma in neonates and small infants and improves maneuverability in a confined oral space. As a conventional blade, it is configured to work with standard laryngoscope illumination systems that deliver light from the handle to the blade tip, providing the clinician with a focused field for intubation.
