Clinical Application

Designed for controlled mechanical cervical dilation, this double-ended Hegar is used to enlarge the cervical canal prior to uterine instrumentation. Typical procedures include dilation and curettage, preparation for hysteroscopy, IUD placement when cervical access is required, and other gynecologic interventions that require atraumatic progressive dilation.

Design & Configuration

The double-ended, opposite-tip configuration provides two adjacent diameters in a single instrument, reducing instrument exchanges on the tray and simplifying sequential dilation. The smooth, slightly tapered cylindrical shaft and rounded tip profile facilitate gradual passage through the cervical os while minimizing focal stress on the tissue. Using appropriately sized Hegar dilators in ascending sequence helps achieve predictable dilation with tactile feedback for the operator.
