Clinical Application

This Hegar uterine dilator is designed to establish and maintain a controlled cervical opening to the specified diameter for a range of gynecologic procedures. It is intended for progressive mechanical dilation of the cervical canal prior to operative interventions such as dilation and curettage (D&C), diagnostic or operative hysteroscopy, endometrial sampling, and intrauterine device placement where a specific lumen size is required. The straight, tapered rod geometry provides tactile feedback to help the operator judge tissue resistance and dilation progression.

Design & Configuration

The instrument uses the classic Hegar geometry: a smooth, cylindric rod with a gradual taper to a rounded tip. This profile produces uniform radial expansion of the cervical canal while minimizing focal stress on the tissue. The single-ended configuration (S/E) simplifies handling and tray organization when a single working end is preferred. A polished, atraumatic tip surface and balanced shaft improve glide during insertion and withdrawal, reducing the need for repeated passes.
