Clinical Application

This instrument is intended to provide controlled mechanical dilatation of the cervical canal. It is used as an initial or intermediate Hegar size for gradual, sequential dilation during common gynecologic procedures such as dilation and curettage (D&C), hysteroscopy access, IUD insertion, and management of cervical stenosis. The 2.5 mm diameter makes it suitable as a smaller-caliber dilator in a graduated set for atraumatic progressive dilation.

Design & Configuration

The single-ended, straight cylindrical geometry with a gently tapered, rounded tip is designed to enter the cervical os with minimal tissue catch. The smooth taper provides predictable radial expansion when advancing progressively through a graduated series of dilators, reducing the need for forceful manipulation. The single-ended configuration is compact and commonly used as part of a numbered set for stepwise dilation.
