Clinical Application
Hegar uterine dilators provide controlled mechanical dilation of the cervical canal to allow introduction of diagnostic or therapeutic instruments. A 4.0 mm diameter dilator is used for initial or minimal dilation in outpatient and operative gynecology settings, including cervical preparation for procedures such as endometrial biopsy, dilation and curettage (D&C), hysteroscopy introduction, and intrauterine device (IUD) placement when light dilation is required. The instrument facilitates gradual serial dilation when used in ascending sequence with larger Hegar sizes.
Design & Configuration
The straight, single-ended taper of this Hegar dilator creates a smooth, gradually increasing profile that eases passage through the cervical os with minimal radial force. A polished, atraumatic tip reduces friction and tissue snagging during insertion and withdrawal. The single-ended configuration simplifies set composition when specific sizes are needed for predictable incremental dilation during office or OR procedures.
