Clinical Application
The Mathieu pattern vaginal speculum provides controlled exposure of the vaginal vault and cervix for diagnostic and minor therapeutic procedures in outpatient and ambulatory surgery settings. Typical uses include pelvic examinations, Pap smear collection, cervical biopsy, colposcopy, IUD insertion or removal, specimen collection, and minor mucosal procedures. The two blade-width options allow clinicians to select a size appropriate to patient anatomy—narrower blades for nulliparous or pediatric patients and wider blades for parous patients or when broader visualization is required.
Design & Configuration
This speculum uses a bivalve Mathieu configuration with an integrated ratchet-style locking mechanism to provide stable, hands-free exposure. The 95 mm blade length affords adequate depth for visualization while maintaining a low profile to help reduce patient discomfort. Rounded, blunted blade edges and contoured surfaces reduce soft-tissue pinch points during insertion and manipulation. Single-handed opening and locking allow the operator to control exposure while the assistant or other instruments are used to perform the procedure.
